Listed below are a number of statements concerning personal attitudes and traits. Read each item and decide whether the statement is true or false as it pertains to you personally.

1. Before voting I thoroughly investigate the qualifications of all the candidates. (T)
2. I never hesitate to go out of my way to help someone in trouble. (T)
3. It is sometimes hard for me to go on with my work if I am not encouraged. (F)

Assuming your scale variables are sd1 to sd33:

* changing the variables in the social desirability scale that were reverse coded.
RECODE sd1 to sd33 (1=1) (0=0) into sdr1 to sdr33.
recode sdr3 sdr5 sdr6 sdr9 sdr10 sdr11 sdr12 sdr14 sdr15 sdr19 sdr22 sdr23 sdr28 sdr30 sdr32 (1=0) (0=1).
compute sdscore = sum(sdr1 to sdr33).
