General-Personal Free Will Scale

Introduction

This is a free will scale, developed by Rakos, Laurene, Skala, & Slane (2008, Behavior and Social Issues):

The current study developed and then administered a new measure of belief in free will to samples of senior high school and college students under conditions where demand characteristics were controlled.

The Free Will and Determinism FWD Scale

Instructions (page 27):

Free Will and Determinism Scale: The 22 Likert-type items on this scale use a five- point range from “not true at all” to “almost always true,” resulting in scores that span from 22 (most deterministic) to 110 (most libertarian), with four items reverse scored. Fourteen items assess personal beliefs about other people having free will and form the General Will subscale with a range of 14 to 70. The other eight items assess beliefs about free will related to oneself, forming the Personal Will subscale with a range of 8 to 40.
